LEADERSHIP
Presbyterian churches have people who are called and ordained to special functions in the church. These special positions are deacons, elders, and ministers of the Word and Sacrament. Both men and woman are eligible to serve and are called to use the gifts given to them by God. Deacons function as the caregivers of the congregation. They care for the needs within the congregation as well as the needs of others. Elders make up the government of the church. Session (made up of elected elders and ministers of the Word and Sacrament) makes the formal decisions on behalf of the congregation. The minister of Word in Sacrament is the pastor of the congregation, leading worship, caring for the people, and administering the sacraments (Baptism and the Lord’s Supper).
